On Friday, President Donald Trump dismissed 12 federal inspectors general from several key government agencies, marking the latest shakeup in the federal bureaucracy. These inspectors general, who oversee the integrity and accountability of various departments, were fired from agencies such as the State Department, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Transportation, and several others, including the Environmental Protection Agency.
One of those fired, Michael Missal from the Department of Veterans Affairs, informed his staff via email shortly after receiving the news. He explained that the White House had informed him of his termination and mentioned that other inspectors general were also dismissed.
Interestingly, the inspector general from the Department of Justice was not among those let go. President Trump has consistently stated his intention to root out what he considers corrupt or politically biased figures within the federal bureaucracy, and this mass firing is part of that ongoing effort. Additionally, Trump has removed numerous federal workers connected to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that were introduced during the Biden Administration.
This latest move highlights the administration’s commitment to reshaping the federal workforce and pushing back against what Trump sees as entrenched bureaucratic influence.
